Charity Build Group is a company with a very, very different charter to most: to give 100% of our profit away. We want to be a [not-for-profit] company that Thinks Differently, Builds Creatively and Gives Generously using the building industry as our tool of choice.
In 2015 Matthew Urquhart and Reid Anderton began a “side” project to their work within the construction industry as contract carpenters. It was more of a passion project as some might call it. The whole idea was to start a [not-for-profit] company within the industry which would eventually be able to raise in excess of $100,000 annually and distributed to partner charities. To achieve this Charity Build Group was named as the new venture. Pretty simple and to the point, yes.
During the initial planning for the first home Matt and Reid were introduced to Mark Deacon who ran an architectural firm on the Gold Coast who would have his company draw up plans free of charge. Struck by the vision of Matt and Reid to encourage those within the building industry to be generous Mark offered his services and jumped on board. Thinking $100,000 per year was a very limited goal, Mark believed eventually Charity Build Group could be established well enough to be raising in excess of 1 million per year.
This vision is still very much a pipe dream. We know that. But it is a worthwhile vision to pursue when the outcomes will assist many disadvantaged children and families hopefully well after we have all retired.
